MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411017487 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 11, 2024, for 'waste collection and segregation device.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Lalita Chopra; Diotima Bose; Prince Sarker; and Samrat Basu.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A waste collection and segregation device, comprising a cuboidal body 1 positioned on a ground surface and segregated into a first 2 and second compartment 3 segregated by a disc 4, a weight sensor positioned on disc 4 for detecting placement of wastes on disc 4, a capacitive proximity sensor mapped in body 1 for detecting type of waste collected on disc 4, an electromagnet mapped on walls of the first compartment 2 which gets energized for adhering metallic waste with walls of first compartment 2, a motorized hinge 7 configured with disc 4 for flipping disc 4 for discarding non-metallic waste in second compartment 3, a level sensor mapped in each compartments for monitoring level of waste filled within compartments and a speaker 5 mounted on body 1 for notifying a concerned person to empty compartments."
