MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202547067746 A) filed by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd., Tokyo, on July 16, for 'wastewater treatment apparatus and wastewater treatment method.'
Inventor(s) include Nagata Keiji; and Hashimoto Yohei.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention addresses the problem of providing a wastewater treatment apparatus and wastewater treatment method employing a treatment tank loaded with carriers, whereby it is possible to suppress carrier outflow and clogging of a carrier layer and continuously perform stable treatment. In order to solve the above problem, the present invention provides a wastewater treatment apparatus and a wastewater treatment method comprising a treatment tank loaded with carbonaceous carriers having particle diameters of 0.7 to 2.0 mm in wastewater treatment for anaerobically treating wastewater. The present invention is based on the finding of the inventors that, when performing anaerobic treatment using a treatment tank loaded with carbonaceous carriers, carrier outflow could occur depending on the particle diameters. The present invention suppresses carrier flotation due to a biogas generated in association with the anaerobic treatment and thus makes it possible to suppress the carrier outflow. In addition, because the accumulation of solids among the carriers is suppressed, it is also possible to suppress clogging of a carrier layer. Accordingly, it is possible to continuously perform stable treatment."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 20, 2023, under International application No.PCT/JP2023/045817.
