MUMBAI, India, Nov. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441036904 A) filed by Vasundhara Arul Murugesan; Dr. G. Vijayakumar Ms. P. Bhargavi; Ms. Megha Nair; Ms. M. Sowmiya; Mr. A. Sivakumar; Ms. E. Vasunthara; Mr. M. Dineshkumar; Mr. V. Gnanaprakash; and Ms. A. Harini, Manmangalam, Tamil Nadu, on May 10, for 'we claim on waste water treatment using ice appleshell as activated carbon.'

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 14, under issue no. 46/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In a world of rapid urbanization and industrialization, effective waste management stands as a critical challenge. This project delves into the design and implementation of a Waste Treatment Plant aimed at addressing the growing concerns about surrounding domestic and industrial waste discharge. By exploring innovative technologies and sustainable practices, this project endeavors to contribute to a cleaner environment, reduced ecological impact, and the promotion of a circular economy. There are several methods for the treatment of wastewater. The use of low-cost adsorbents is effective in wastewater treatment. One such technique available for treating wastewater to remove contaminants like halogenated hydrocarbon compounds, heavy metals, dyes, pigments from wastewater. It suggest about treatment of secondary treated water with activated carbon adsorption technique by using activated carbon filter prepared with ice apple shell. Also taken comparison and analysis of the purification with the existing filter, thereby interpreting the viability of the model. This activated carbon powder can be used as an alternate filter media against coal which is more cost effective compared to coal. Treated water is completely safe for irrigational water under the TNPCB 2020 guidelines. It is also one of the sustainable way of waste management of agriculture wastes generated in the fields."
