MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611106497 A) filed by Gla University, Mathura on September 03, 2026, for A Bacterial Bioreactor System And Method For Plastic Waste Degradation.

Inventor includes Dr. Biplov C. Sarkar.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a bacterial bioreactor system and method for controlled biodegradation of plastic waste. The system comprises a reactor tank (100), an agitation system (101), a thermal jacket (102), sensor probes (103), a system monitor (104), a feeding pump (105), a nutrient medium (106), an air inlet (107), a submerged aerator (108), and an effluent outlet (109). Plastic-degrading microorganisms are maintained under controlled temperature, aeration, agitation, and nutrient conditions to depolymerize plastic waste into oligomers, monomers, microbial biomass, and biodegradable metabolites. The system enables efficient biological degradation with real-time process monitoring, improved operational control, scalability, and environmentally sustainable treatment of plastic waste for industrial and municipal waste management applications.
