MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411104367 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 30, 2024, for A Battery Pack With Swell Compensation Mechanism.

Inventors include Ganesha Neelappa; Prahlad Bangera; and Rajat Pareek.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: A battery pack (100) with a swell compensation mechanism includes a plurality of cell assemblies (110) stacked adjacent to each other. Each of the plurality of cell assemblies (110) comprises a swell compensation mechanism that includes a spring plate (122) located within a cell casing of the cell assembly. The cell casing includes a housing (112) to accommodate the cell (116), and a holder to accommodate the spring plate (122) which is pre-tensioned to press against the cell through a flat portion of the holder (114) to keep internal layers of the cell (116) intact. Spring plate is configured to bend or deflect under force from the corresponding cell (116) creating room for swelling of the cell (116) within the casing, thus keeping adjacent cell assembly (110) unaffected.
