Abstract: ABSTRACT A BIO-DERIVED MELANIN-INCORPORATED ORGANIC ELECTROCHEMICAL TRANSISTOR DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL SIGNAL SENSING The present invention relates to a bioelectronic sensing device and a method for fabricating the same, based on a bio derived melanin incorporated organic electrochemical transistor for electrophysiological signal sensing. The device comprises patterned source and drain electrodes on a substrate and an active channel formed from a composite of bio derived melanin and ethylene glycol treated poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate, interfaced with a solid electrolyte. Incorporation of melanin into the conducting polymer matrix enables synergistic mixed ionic- electronic charge transport, hydration assisted proton conduction, and partial dedoping of the conducting polymer, while preserving efficient electronic pathways. The device operates as a p type organic electrochemical transistor in a simplified two electrode configuration, eliminating the need for a separate gate electrode. Ionic fluctuations at the channel–electrolyte interface modulate the channel conductivity, producing amplified variations in drain current with enhanced transconductance and signal to noise ratio.
