Abstract: The present invention relates to a biochar-enriched controlled release fertilizer composition comprising activated biochar as carrier matrix loaded with balanced macronutrients nitrogen phosphorus potassium along with secondary nutrients and micronutrients, coated with biodegradable polymer layer for sustained nutrient release. The biochar is prepared from agricultural waste biomass through pyrolysis at 350 to 550 degrees Celsius followed by activation to enhance surface area and cation exchange capacity. Nutrient loading is accomplished through impregnation method followed by granulation and polymer coating using fluidized bed technique. The composition provides controlled nutrient release extending 60 to 120 days matching crop demand patterns while simultaneously improving soil water retention capacity, organic carbon content, cation exchange capacity, and microbial activity. Field trials demonstrate significant improvements in crop yield, nutrient use efficiency, and environmental sustainability compared to conventional fertilizers. The invention addresses critical need for sustainable nutrient management in modern agriculture through cost- effective technology utilizing waste biomass and biodegradable materials.
