The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to corrosion protection of copper by a bio-derived surface coating composition prepared from ethanolic extract of waste spinach leaves collected from discarded domestic vegetable waste. The extract is obtained by soaking 5 g spinach leaf powder in 50 mL ethanol, agitating for 1 day at 400 rpm, and filtering, and contains flavonoids, alkaloids, ascorbic acid, chlorophyll-related absorption constituents, and oxygen-containing and heteroatom-bearing species that form a coating layer after ethanol evaporation. The coating is deposited on a copper strip by drop casting 40 µL per layer onto a 1 × 1 cm² exposed area, with optional repetition to form multiple layers. Compared with conventional corrosion inhibitors, the invention provides a low-cost, waste-derived, environmentally benign coating that improves corrosion resistance in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride solution, three layers yielding 85% protection efficiency.
