MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611107574 A) filed by Gla University, Mathura on September 07, 2026, for A Computer-Implemented Process For Automated Classification Of Age-Related Macular Degeneration From Retinal Fundus Images.
Inventors include Dr. Diwakar Agarwal; and Dr. Anuja Bhargava.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a computer-implemented process for automated classification of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) from retinal fundus images. The process comprises acquiring a color retinal fundus image, performing preprocessing including green-channel extraction, contrast enhancement and contrast stretching, and localizing an optic disc based on intensity characteristics. An optic disc centre is determined and used to define a restricted macular search area for identifying a candidate macular pixel. A Region-of-Interest is generated around the candidate pixel, from which texture and colour features are extracted. Discriminative features are selected using a t-test and/or ReliefF technique. The selected features are supplied to supervised machine-learning classifiers including Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest Neighbor, Naïve Bayes Classifier and Multi-Layer Perceptron for classifying the retinal fundus image as normal or AMD.
