Abstract: An AI-based conditional and adaptive payment execution system (100) and method for preventing unauthorized or fraudulent digital payment transactions is disclosed. The system comprises a payment initiation module (110), a contextual and behavioral data acquisition engine (120), a real-time risk scoring engine (130) employing trained machine learning models, a conditional adaptive execution controller (150), an intelligent delay mechanism (160), a user intent verification module (170), and a transaction cancellation and reversal window manager (190). Upon transaction initiation, the system captures multi-dimensional behavioral, contextual, and transactional parameters, computes a real-time risk score, and conditionally routes the transaction to immediate execution, delayed execution with user intent verification, staged verification, or blocking based on risk threshold classification. For transactions routed to the delayed execution path, a non-static delay interval proportional to risk severity is introduced, during which contextual confirmation prompts are presented and the user retains cancellation rights. An adaptive learning engine (200) continuously refines risk models based on transaction outcomes, supporting federated learning for privacy-preserving distributed improvement. An explainable AI layer (240) provides intelligible risk explanations. The system integrates as middleware with existing payment infrastructure without protocol modification. Fig. 1
