MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411089232 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on November 18, 2024, for A Cover For Vehicle Identification Number Marking In A Vehicle.

Abstract: A cover 100 for accessing VIN marking includes a U-shaped flap 200 cut on a carpet 102 such that one side of the flap 200 is integral to the carpet 102, where the flap 200 creates an opening for viewing the VIN marking; and a frame 104 fixed to the flap 200 such that the frame 104 along with the flap 200 is pivotally movable about the integral side of the flap 200 between a fixed position in which the cover 100 closes the opening, and an open position. Frame 104 includes ribs 302 on a back side of the frame 104 such that in the fixed position, the ribs 302 are accommodated within a slit between the flap 200 and the carpet 102. A set of first fastening means 304 engage with a corresponding set of first holes provided on the carpet 102 to retain the cover 100 in position.
