MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411104365 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 30, 2024, for A Crash Energy Distribution System For A Vehicle.
Inventors include Bhanuprasad Puttaswamayya; Satish Gowda; Karthik Thulichalai Mohandas Prabhu; and Vivekanand Pasupathy.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a crash energy distribution system (100) to redirect or absorb impact forces during a vehicle crash, minimizing their transfer to the vehicle’s battery pack (102) and preventing cross members (110) or other frame components from intruding into the battery pack (102). The system (100) includes a pair of first members (106) positioned along the vehicle’s lateral sides to absorb impact forces during a side crash. Additionally, one or more second members (108) are configured between the first members (106) to transfer impact forces from the crash-side first member to the other first member. The second members (108) are positioned within cross members (110) of the vehicle, with their ends coupled to the respective first members (106) through a series of dampening members (112) that absorb the impact forces and reduce their transmission to the battery pack (102).
