The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: A device (100) and a method for detecting counterfeit currency notes based on acoustic properties are disclosed. The device (100) comprises an acoustic-sensing unit (101) configured to capture a digital acoustic signal generated in response to a manual or mechanically induced flicking action applied to a currency note. A processing unit (102) receives the digital acoustic signal through an interface module (103) and pre-processes the signal by resampling, silence removal, pre-emphasis filtering, harmonic-percussive source separation, amplitude normalisation, and segmentation into overlapping frames. A feature-extraction module (105) extracts mel-frequency cepstral coefficient features, a spectral-centroid feature, and zero-crossing-rate and delta features to generate a 46-dimensional acoustic feature vector. A classification module (106) standardises the acoustic feature vector using reference parameters stored in a storage unit (107) and applies a trained Linear Support Vector Machine classifier model to determine an authenticity status of the currency note as genuine or counterfeit. An output unit (108) presents the authenticity status as a genuine-note indication or a counterfeit-note indication. The classification model and the reference parameters are locally stored, enabling offline operation without requiring a remote server, cloud service, or Internet connectivity.
