MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611028031 A) filed by Shalu Shukla; and Prof. Dr. Vinay Pandit on March 10, 2026, for A Dry Powder Inhaler Composition And A Method For Preparing Lyophilized Trojan Nano-In- Microparticulate System Of Doxorubicin For Treatment Of Lung Cancer.

Inventors include Shalu Shukla; and Prof. Dr. Vinay Pandit.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulation based on nanotechnology and pulmonary drug delivery that enables targeted treatment of lung cancer with improved therapeutic efficacy and reduced systemic toxicity. The method comprises preparing Doxorubicin-loaded silver nanoparticles by dissolving the drug in a hydro-alcoholic solvent system and adding the obtained solution dropwise into a heated silver nitrate solution, followed by stabilization using surfactants and polymeric agents. The resulting nano-in-microparticulate system is incorporated with a cryoprotectant and subjected to freezing and lyophilization to obtain a stable, free-flowing inhalable powder. The lyophilized formulation is characterized and formulated into a dry powder inhaler suitable for deep lung deposition. The Trojan nano-in-microparticulate system enables efficient pulmonary delivery, controlled drug release, enhanced retention at the tumor site, and reduced off-target exposure. The formulation overcomes limitations of conventional systemic chemotherapy, such as cardiotoxicity, myelosuppression, and non-specific biodistribution, thereby providing a safer and more effective therapeutic approach for lung cancer management. Therefore, the present invention provides an innovative and patient-friendly pulmonary chemotherapy platform that addresses the shortcomings of existing treatments and improves clinical outcomes in lung cancer therapy.
