Abstract: The present invention relates to a dry turning system for hard machining of bearing steel, particularly AISI 52100, widely employed in high-load and precision applications due to its high hardness, wear resistance, and fatigue strength. The system comprises a lathe machine, workpiece holder, cutting tool assembly with coated or uncoated carbide and PCBN inserts, a parameter control module for adjusting cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut, a data acquisition module for measuring surface roughness, tool wear, and chip formation, and an optimization module employing Taguchi-based experimental design. The cutting tool interacts with the workpiece under dry conditions, while the parameter control module ensures optimized machining variables. Surface integrity, tool life, and machining efficiency are enhanced through systematic monitoring and multiparametric optimization. The invention eliminates the need for cutting fluids, reducing environmental pollution and health hazards, while providing improved productivity, consistent surface finish, and reliable performance in hard turning of high-carbon, chromium-containing bearing steel.
