MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541048038 A) filed by Xibotix Private Limited on May 19, 2025, for A Dual-Handed Robotic Rehabilitation Device For Hand Rehabilitation Of Individuals With Neuromuscular Impairments.

Inventors include Havish Ramendra Karanam; Sharmila Nageswaran; and Apurv Shantanu Vyavhare.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a dual-handed robotic rehabilitation device (100) for individuals with motor or neuromuscular impairments. The device comprises a sensor exoskeleton unit (102) worn on an unaffected hand and an actuator exoskeleton unit (104) worn on an affected hand. The sensor unit (102) utilizes joint angle sensors (108) to detect independent metacarpophalangeal (MCP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint movements. A processing unit (112) receives this real-time kinematic data, processes movement parameters, and generates control signals for servo motors or linear actuators (110) in the actuator unit (104) to precisely replicate the movements for mirror therapy. Both exoskeleton units feature a 9-degree-of-freedom architecture and a biomimetic constrained scissor-type linkage mechanism (106) to ensure anatomically accurate finger trajectories. The system communicatively couples with an external computing device for offline rehabilitation monitoring, quantitative analytics, gamified therapy, and machine-learning-based recovery prediction, making it highly effective for both clinical and portable home-based rehabilitation.
