The handheld utensil (100) has a compact construction suitable for domestic kitchens, commercial kitchens, food preparation counters, and serving environments. The handheld utensil (100) is capable of improving consistency of oil removal during repeated use, irrespective of variations in user handling technique. The handheld utensil (100) integrates food lifting, oil removal, and transfer functions within a single manually operable device.
