Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a dual-mode handheld utensil (100) configured for removing excess oil from fried or oil-coated food items during handling and transfer by using selectable compression-based and oscillation-based operation. The dual-mode handheld utensil (100) comprises a handle (102), a lever (104), a bottom claw (106), an upper claw (108), a pivot shaft (110), a first square locking member (112), a second square locking member (114), a first engagement member (116), a second engagement member (118), and a spring (124). The handheld utensil (100) has a compact construction suitable for domestic kitchens, commercial kitchens, food preparation counters, and serving environments. The handheld utensil (100) is capable of improving consistency of oil removal during repeated use, irrespective of variations in user handling technique. The handheld utensil (100) integrates food lifting, oil removal, and transfer functions within a single manually operable device.
