Abstract: The present invention relates to a process involving high severity catalytic cracking to convert whole crude oil to light olefins and aromatics, and a dual catalytic cracking reactor system in which two reactors are connected in a series with respect to the catalyst flow. The process enables the refiner to maximize the production of value-added petrochemical feedstock and minimize the production of liquid fuel directly from crude oil using a single process unit. The reactor system comprises a fractionator (A), a dense fluidized bed reactor (B), an Upflow reactor cum Stripper (C), a product separation section (E) and a combustor (D).
