MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511102710 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras on October 24, 2025, for A Functionally Tunable Wideband Graphene-Patterned Metasurface Based Absorber.

Inventors include Somak Bhattacharyya; and Ajeet Singh Verma.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention provides a functionally tunable wideband graphene-patterned metasurface based absorber (100) comprises a top layer (1); a middle layer (2); and a bottom layer (3). The top layer (1) is a graphene sheet deposited on a gold backed substrate and said graphene sheet forms a central square patch (4) connecting at least four rings (5) at each corner and said graphene sheet operates across a wide absorption bandwidth and achieves increased absorption. The middle layer (2) is a dielectric substrate which is deposited below said top layer (1) and supports an angular stability, contributes to wide angular and polarization independent absorption behavior. The bottom layer (3) is a gold sheet that is disposed below said middle layer (2) and ensures negligible transmission and contributes to field confinement.
