Abstract: Disclosed is a method (100) for green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using marine seaweed extract for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. The method (100) includes collecting (102) marine seaweed biomass comprising Sargassum polycystum, washing (104) the marine seaweed biomass, drying (106) the washed marine seaweed biomass, and grinding (108) the dried marine seaweed biomass to obtain seaweed powder. The method (100) further includes extracting (110) bioactive phytochemicals from the seaweed powder using a hydroalcoholic solvent to obtain a phytochemical-rich Sargassum polycystum extract, and preparing (112) an aqueous silver nitrate solution. The phytochemical-rich Sargassum polycystum extract is mixed (114) with the aqueous silver nitrate solution under controlled conditions to reduce silver ions into metallic silver nanoparticles and simultaneously stabilize the metallic silver nanoparticles. The method (100) further includes separating (116), washing (118), and drying (120) the metallic silver nanoparticles to obtain purified biologically active silver nanoparticles.
