MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621106890 A) filed by Vishwakarma Institute Of Technology; and Vishwakarma University on September 04, 2026, for A Hand Gesture Control System.

Inventors include Joshi, Anita; Kakaria, Heet Ritesh; Hoge, Atharva Satish; Halge, Aditya Siddheshwar; and Dangat, Harshwardhan.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a hand gesture control system. The system comprises an image capturing unit (101), a processing unit (102), a gesture recognition module (103), a classification module (104), a control unit (105), and one or more output devices including a lighting device (106), a ventilation device (107), and an alert device (108). Real-time video is captured through the image capturing unit (101), wherein the gesture recognition module (103) utilizing MediaPipe detects twenty-one hand landmarks and extracts landmark coordinates as feature vectors. The classification module (104) utilizing a KNN algorithm classifies the detected gesture and generates a corresponding control command. The command is transmitted to the control unit (105), which controls the connected output devices through its GPIO pins. The system provides real-time gesture-based device control with minimal delay and without the use of wearable sensors.
