MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631029849 A) filed by University Of Calcutta on March 12, 2026, for A Hardware-Based Predictive Air Filter Performance Monitoring System For Hvac Unit.

Inventors include Shraman Biswas; Dr. Soumya Pandit; and Dr. Arpita Das.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Title: A HARDWARE-BASED PREDICTIVE AIR FILTER PERFORMANCE MONITORING SYSTEM FOR HVAC UNIT A hardware-implemented, power-efficient, and real-time air filter health monitoring system for HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) unit is disclosed. The system integrates an IoT-enabled sensing unit and a machine learning (ML) model implemented on system-on-chipFPGA platform. The sensing unit gathers real-time data on temperature, humidity, and differential air pressure. These are wirelessly transmitted to the detection unit, where a multiclass support vector machine (SVM) classifier, embedded in FPGA logic, predicts the filter condition. The system enables highly accurate (98.78%) filter status detection while maintaining ultra-low power operation and minimal hardware footprint. The invention enables modular, scalable, and edge-deployable HVAC maintenance technology.
