MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611070215 A) filed by Ims Engineering College, Ghaziabad on June 04, 2026, for A High-Strength Biodegradable Polymer Composition With Natural Fiber Reinforcement And Bio- Based Compatibilizer.
Inventors include Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma; Dr. Siddharth Vats; Miss Rinki Singh; and Ms. Renu Prasad.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention provides a high-strength biodegradable polymer composition comprising a biodegradable polymer matrix, natural fiber reinforcement, a bio- based compatibilizer, a reinforcing filler, a biodegradable plasticizer, and optional processing additives. The composition is designed to overcome brittleness, poor toughness, low interfacial adhesion, and inadequate dimensional stability commonly associated with conventional biodegradable polymers. The natural fibers improve tensile and flexural strength, the bio-based compatibilizer enhances bonding between the fibers and polymer matrix, the filler improves stiffness and thermal stability, and the plasticizer improves processability and controlled flexibility. The composition may comprise polylactic acid, polybutylene succinate, polyhydroxyalkanoate, starch-based polymer, bamboo fiber, jute fiber, nanocellulose, calcium carbonate, epoxidized vegetable oil, and citrate ester in selected proportions. The composition may be processed by extrusion, injection molding, compression molding, film extrusion, sheet extrusion, or thermoforming to produce biodegradable packaging, agricultural products, disposable articles, and molded components.
