Abstract: A HYBRID INVERTER DRIVE SYSTEM FOR A SIX-PHASE INDUCTION MOTOR A hybrid inverter drive system 100 for driving a six-phase induction motor 102 is disclosed. The system comprises a voltage source inverter (VSI) 104 coupled to a first three-phase stator winding set 114, a current source inverter (CSI) 106 coupled to a second three-phase stator winding set 116, a DC-DC converter 108, and a DC-link inductor 110. The VSI 104 and the CSI 106 are configured to operate in coordination to drive the six-phase induction motor 102. During operation in an extended speed range, the VSI 104 operates in a square-wave mode to maximize voltage utilization, while the CSI 106 operates through pulse width modulation (PWM) to maintain magnetic flux and compensate harmonic effects associated with operation of the VSI 104 in the square-wave mode.
