MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641086700 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on July 15, 2026, for A Hydrogel Composition For Wound Management And Method Of Preparing A Hydrogel Patch.
Inventors include Debasish Mishra; Pavan Gutti; and A S Parvathy.
The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a hydrogel composition (100) for wound management and a method of preparing a hydrogel patch (112). The hydrogel composition (100) comprises a sodium alginate polymer matrix (102), ethylene glycol (104), optionally polyvinyl alcohol (106), a zinc ion crosslinking component (108), and at least one secondary metal ion (110) selected from cobalt ions and manganese ions. The sodium alginate polymer matrix (102) is ionotropically crosslinked by the zinc ion crosslinking component (108) alone or in combination with the secondary metal ion (110) to form a three-dimensional ionotropically crosslinked hydrogel network. The method comprises preparing mono-polyol or bi-polyol pre-gel matrices, casting and drying the pre-gel matrices to obtain uncrosslinked polymeric films, followed by ionotropic crosslinking, washing, and drying to produce the hydrogel patch (112). The hydrogel patch (112) exhibits controlled swelling, structural stability, antibiofilm activity, cytocompatibility, and hemocompatibility, thereby providing a bioselective wound dressing suitable for wound management applications.
