MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611116281 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University on September 29, 2026, for A Hydrogel Film Composition And Method For Preparing Alum-Crosslinked Sodium Alginate Wound Dressing Materials.
Inventors include Dr. Purandhi Roopmani; Kanak Verma; and Shivangi Gaur.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to biomaterial wound dressings, and discloses an alum-crosslinked sodium alginate hydrogel film and a preparation method using sodium alginate solution and alum solution, each at about 3% w/v, applied in a 1:1 volume ratio on an autoclaved glass slide or petri dish. Potassium aluminum sulfate provides Al3+ ions that replace Na+ ions at alginate carboxylate groups and form ionic bridges between guluronate and mannuronate blocks, producing an egg-box-like network. Compared with conventional crosslinking systems, the disclosed process provides a substantially continuous, smooth, free-standing, foldable film with wet thickness of about 0.1 cm, reduced macroscopic cracking, and a dried state that rapidly reswells in phosphate buffer or water to recover size, shape and texture within about five minutes. The composition is useful as a wound dressing material.
