Abstract: ABSTRACT A laboratory-compatible system and method for simulating rockfall impact loading. The present invention discloses a test loading device to evaluate the behavior, performance and failure mechanism of structural elements subjected to the impact of falling rocks or boulders. The device comprises an elevated loading platform (8), semi-circular steel track with upper (1) and lower (2) slopes and a lifting mechanism that includes a pulley mechanism (5) and a chain (6) for safely hoisting standardized steel balls of varying masses and diameters and placing them in a lifting box (7) to the semicircular track to proceed to impact a specimen (3) with horizontal velocity, thereby producing a controlled impact event suitable for structural response assessment, damage characterization and failure mechanism evaluation. The impactor utilized in the device comprises steel balls with masses of 3.5kg, 5kg, 10kg, 30kg and 60kg with corresponding diameters of 90mm, 110mm, 150mm, 200mm and 250mm respectively to perform test of different impact loading.
