Abstract: The present invention relates to a light-assisted fine needle aspiration (FNAC) device incorporating a micro-textured needle design to enable combined exfoliative cytology and aspiration for improved diagnostic sampling of oral and maxillofacial lesions. The device comprises a fine needle aspiration needle assembly adapted to receive a detachable light-emitting module positioned externally around the needle hub or proximal needle portion. The light-emitting module provides localized illumination at the lesion site, thereby assisting clinicians in accurate needle placement and improved lesion visualization. In certain embodiments, the needle includes micro-serrations, grooves, or surface texturing along the distal portion to facilitate mechanical exfoliation of superficial epithelial cells while simultaneously aspirating deeper cellular material. The light-emitting module remains structurally isolated from the aspiration pathway, preventing contamination by biological fluids and allowing potential reuse following appropriate disinfection. The invention improves sampling adequacy, reduces repeat procedures, and enhances diagnostic yield in cytological evaluation.
