Abstract: ABSTRACT A LOW-CARBON, CRACK-RESPONSIVE CEMENTITIOUS COMPOSITION WITH CALCIUM CARBONATE SELF-HEALING The present invention is directed to a carbon-low, crack responsive, cementitious material with calcium carbonate healing. The material consists of a low-clinker binder which includes ground granulated blast furnace slag and crushed bricks powder, an aggregate material, a low carbon activator, and engineered recycled brick healing aggregates. Each healing aggregate consists of a porous core of recycled brick containing calcium ion releasing precursor and calcium carbonate nucleation seeds, a precursor retention barrier, and an activator-containing outer mineral shell. The barrier physically isolates the calcium and carbonate producing materials during mixing and initial curing. When a crack comes into contact with the healing aggregate, the moisture leads to convergence of calcium and carbonate rich fronts within the crack and precipitation of calcium carbonate around the nucleation sites and crack faces. The mineralization process seals the crack, reduces its permeability, and limits aggressive chemicals access to the crack. A manufacturing method involves slag and brick wastes processing, loading porous cores, making barrier and outer shell, late mixing, casting, curing, and performance evaluation. Fig. 3
