MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411091404 A) filed by University Of Lucknow on November 23, 2024, for A Machine Learning (ml) Based System And Method For Detecting Sub Concentration Of Heavy Metal Ions.
Inventors include Akanksha Mishra; and Roli Verma.
The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a machine learning (ML) based system and method for detecting sub concentration of heavy metal ions by using smart phone. The system integrated with machine learning techniques with colorimetric analysis for the real-time monitoring of water pollution, with a focus on detecting Pb2+ and Fe3+ ions is proposed. Initially a paper sensor is prepared to accurately identify specific ions at fixed concentrations within water samples. To further enhance the robustness and effectiveness of the sensors across a broader range of specific ions, digital images of the paper sensors are captured under diverse conditions, including varying concentrations and different Android smartphones, in various lighting environments, to create the training and testing datasets. Then ML based classifiers capable of rapidly and accurately detecting the sub concentration of heavy metal ions were created using the prepared dataset. Thus the present invention is a rapid and cost- effective system for the assessment of heavy metal ion and, provides a promising solution for practical field testing to ensure water quality.
