MUMBAI, India, June 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411094956 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, An Indian on December 02, 2024, for A Media Formulation For The Biohythane Production And A Process Thereof.

Inventors include Sunil Kumar; and Rena.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The present invention utilized lignocellulosic agricultural residues (rice straw), vegetable waste (potato peel waste), and metallic waste (banded hematite quartzite from iron ore mining) combined with anaerobic sludge and cow dung slurry at 11% total solid content using anaerobic digestion to produce & optimize Biohythane. The process remains straightforward and finely tuned through fundamental adjustments in process parameters and media formulation. The cumulative H2 and CH4 production mL/g VS bearing (S:I): co-substrate]: A} viz., {[(2:1):1/2]:1/2} having particle size 0.425mm at a fixed TS of 11% shows an enhanced amount of Biohythane. Compared to the control set-up, the production of H2 got enhanced by 77% and CH4 by 81%.This favorable outcome aids in waste management, promotes waste-to-energy initiatives, advances the circular economy, and aligns with the objectives of sustainable development goals.
