MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641071986 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on June 10, 2026, for A Method And Composition For An Amniotic Bilayered Nanocomposite Construct For Periodontal Regeneration.

Abstract: An amniotic bilayered nanocomposite construct (100) for periodontal regeneration is disclosed, comprising a first bioactive layer (101) configured to promote bone formation and mineral deposition, and a second bioactive layer (103) configured to inhibit microbial colonization and biofilm formation, wherein the first bioactive layer (101) and the second bioactive layer (103) are integrally bonded by sequential freeze casting to obtain a bioresorbable barrier membrane for guided periodontal tissue regeneration. The first bioactive layer (101) comprises an extracellular matrix scaffold (10) derived from a decellularized amniotic membrane of placental origin, reinforced with an osteoconductive ceramic particle (103B) and a bioactive silicate nanoclay (103C). The second bioactive layer (103) comprises the extracellular matrix scaffold (10) reinforced with an antimicrobial metallic nanoparticle (103A). The amniotic bilayered nanocomposite construct (100) exhibits a porosity of 88.4 percent and an ultimate tensile strength of 0.44 megapascals. (FIG. 1)
