MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641086110 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on July 14, 2026, for A Method And Composition For Thermal Management Using Oleic Acid-Functionalized Zno Nanoparticles In Lauric Acid.
Inventors include Rakshith; Anoop Kanjirakat Baby; Pramod Balwantrao Salunkhe; and Pramod Kesavan Namboothiri.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composite phase change material (100). The method (300) comprises preparing ZnO nanoparticles (101) by chemical precipitation and microwave irradiation, surface functionalizing the ZnO nanoparticles (101) by chemically bonding oleic acid at pH 9 to obtain oleic acid-functionalized ZnO nanoparticles (103), isolating the oleic acid-functionalized ZnO nanoparticles (103) by washing and drying to remove unbound oleic acid, formulating the composite phase change material (100) by dispersing the oleic acid-functionalized ZnO nanoparticles (103) into molten lauric acid at 4 wt% total additive loading, and filling into the cavities (109) of an aluminium heat sink (107) with the composite phase change material (100) to deliver an effective thermal resistance of about 0.12 K/W at 800 seconds under forced convection.
