Abstract: The present disclosure addresses limitations associated with conventional deep learning techniques for automated respiratory disease detection from chest X-ray images, including inadequate feature discrimination and inconsistent classification performance. To address these limitations, a computer-implemented respiratory disease detection system (100) and method (200) are disclosed. The system (100) receives chest X-ray images, preprocesses the images, extracts hierarchical feature representations using a feature extraction module (304), and sequentially refines the extracted features through a channel attention module (306a) and a spatial attention module (306b). The refined feature representations are classified by a classification module (308) to generate respiratory disease predictions, which are communicated through an output module (310). The disclosed architecture facilitates automated and reliable classification of respiratory diseases from chest X-ray images.
