Abstract: TITLE: A METHOD FOR PRE-MORDANTING COTTON FABRIC USING SARGASSUM–LODHRA BIOMORDANT TO ENHANCE DYE FIXATION AND FASTNESS APPLICANT: KARUNYA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCES ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a method of pre mordanting cotton fabric for natural dyeing, comprising: a. dispersing powdered Sargassum wightii seaweed and powdered Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa) bark in distilled water, boiling, cooling, and filtering to obtain biomordant solution; b. pre wetting bleached plain woven cotton fabric swatches in distilled water to obtain wet fabric; c. immersing wet fabric in the biomordant solution at a material-to-liquor ratio, gradually raising the temperature, maintaining for predetermined time, soaking overnight in the mordant bath, and air drying without rinsing to form pre mordanted fabric; d. boiling Acacia catechu powder in distilled water, followed by filtration to obtain catechu dye solution; e. dyeing the pre mordanted fabric in the catechu dye solution at a material to liquor ratio, heating, and leaving overnight to obtain dyed fabric; f. post treating the dyed fabric by cold rinsing, followed by soaping in neutral soap solution prepared in water, rinsing, and air drying to obtain treated fabric.
