Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a method for preparing an agro-waste reinforced biodegradable biocomposite composition for liquid food packaging applications. The method comprises washing coconut shells, sun-drying, mechanically crushing, ball-milling, sieving to obtain coconut shell powder having a particle size of 75 micrometers to 150 micrometers, and oven-drying the coconut shell powder. Potato starch is dispersed in distilled water and heated to obtain a homogeneous starch gel. Glycerine is added to obtain a plasticized starch gel, followed by gradual incorporation of the pre-dried coconut shell powder and mixing to obtain a homogeneous slurry. The slurry is vacuum degassed, cast, dried to obtain a composite preform, hot-compression molded to form a molded biodegradable biocomposite article, and conditioned. The prepared article provides suitability for liquid containment, reduced moisture sensitivity, water resistance, and leak-resistant liquid containment capability.
