MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511103839 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras on October 28, 2025, for A Method For Production Of A Biopolymer From Agro-Waste.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an economically viable and sustainable method of production of a biopolymer from a low-carbon source agro-waste. The method involves environmentally benign biological pre-treatment of the agro-waste with a fungus that is free of toxic chemical, followed by a two-stage fermentation step for targeted modulation of culture conditions that includes carbon surplus and sulfur deficiency to redirect metabolic flux toward the biosynthesis of polyhydroxybutyrate, followed by microbial treatment with a bacterial strain for improved yield of polyhydroxybutyrate that is free of biomass and by-products. Further, the present invention provides a sustainable, waste-to-value bioprocess that supports agro-industrial residue valorization and promotes circular bio-economy initiatives.
