MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611045063 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Kanpur on April 08, 2026, for A Method For Scalable Sol–gel Synthesis Of Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate Cathode Materials.

Abstract: The invention relates to a scalable sol–gel process for fabricating LiMn1–xFexPO4 cathode materials that combines precise reaction control and uniform composition. A reaction vessel equipped with a magnetic stirrer and integrated heating element maintains a glycol solvent (e.g., a 1:1 mixture of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol) at about 50°C. Sequential addition of stoichiometric precursor salts including a lithium precursor (e.g., lithium hydroxide or carbonate), manganese precursor (e.g., manganese acetate or oxide), and iron precursor (e.g., iron oxalate or sulfate), as well as a phosphorus source (e.g., phosphoric acid or ammonium dihydrogen phosphate) added dropwise which forms a homogeneous sol. Continuous stirring promotes hydrolysis and polycondensation, followed by drying at 100°C under reduced pressure and calcining at 700°C under inert gas to crystallize the cathode phase, optionally followed by post-calcination grinding.
