Abstract: ABSTRACT A METHOD FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF THIAZOLYL HYDRAZONE DERIVATIVES The present invention provides a one-pot two-step process for preparing a thiazolyl hydrazone derivative compound of Formula (I), where R’ is selected from H, Cl, OMe and NO2; R is selected from aryl, heteroaryl, alkyl or other suitable organic substituents; The process comprising: - Reacting a phenacyl bromide with thiosemicarbazide in a solvent system comprising methanol:water (1:1) in the presence of an alkali metal halide catalyst, preferably NaF; - Stirring the reaction mixture at room temperature for a first reaction period to form a 2-hydrazinyl-4- substituted thiazole intermediate; - Adding a carbonyl compound selected from aromatic, heteroaromatic and aliphatic aldehydes/ketones without isolating the intermediate; - Stirring the reaction mixture at room temperature to form the thiazolyl hydrazone derivative compound of Formula (I); and - Isolating the compound thiazolyl hydrazone derivative from the reaction mixture. The process is completed at room temperature within 20 to 25 minutes.
