MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611038782 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on March 28, 2026, for A Method Of Preparation Of A Biodegradable Foam.
Inventors include Prodyut Dhar; Himanshu Modi; and Rohit Rai.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of preparation of a biodegradable foam. The prevent invention provides a low-cost, biodegradable and eco-friendly dialdehyde cellulose (DAC) foams prepared from agricultural waste for thermal management in batteries in the form of insulation pack for a battery and in the form of food packaging box for storing temperature sensitive food products. The prepared foams showed high density, high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity, thermal stability, insulation and flame-retardant properties. The present invention replaces the currently utilized non-biodegradable and harmful petroleum-based polymers applied in battery packaging as well as counters the problem of agricultural waste accumulation with a circular economy- based approach.
