The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a microbiome-compatible denture base material and a method for preparing the same. The material comprises a polymeric structural matrix and an integrally bonded tissue-contacting interfacial phase containing immobilised zwitterionic polymer segments, a hydrophilic glycopolymeric component and pH-responsive microreservoirs containing an alkalising composition. The zwitterionic polymer segments establish a hydrated surface that reduces non-specific adsorption of salivary proteins and initial microbial attachment, while the glycopolymeric component improves lubrication and mucosal compatibility. The microreservoirs restrict release under substantially neutral conditions and increase release of a basic amino acid, calcium phosphate compound, bicarbonate compound or combination thereof when the interfacial pH decreases below a predetermined threshold. The tissue-contacting phase is preferably substantially free from diffusible broad-spectrum antimicrobial biocides. The preparation method includes forming the structural matrix, preparing the microreservoirs and a polymerisable interfacial precursor, applying the precursor to a tissue-facing surface, and polymerising or crosslinking the precursor to obtain a durable microbiome-compatible denture material.
