MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611102825 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on August 26, 2026, for A Microcontroller-Based Cricket Batting Shot Classification System For Training Analysis Using Edge Ai.
Inventor includes Dr. Timothy Malche.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a microcontroller-based cricket batting shot classification system for training analysis using Edge AI for real-time training analysis. The system comprises a lightweight neural network optimized for microcontroller deployment to help batters identify and measure textbook batting shots. It analyzes the six-axis inertial motion of the bat directly on the device, detects complete stroke signatures, and classifies different shot types, including the forward defensive block, front foot drive, square cut, pull, and sweep. The system provides real-time shot counting and feedback without depending on cloud computation, cameras, or a paired smartphone. This makes it different from traditional cricket batting analysis systems. It supports low-power operation and uses non-destructive adhesive mounting on the back of the bat blade. A layered decision gate rejects non-shot movements, helping the system provide reliable per-shot analytics and useful training feedback to the player.
