Abstract: ABSTRACT A MIXED-SIGNAL PLATFORM FOR IN-PROCESS ESTIMATION OF POWER SYSTEM APPARENT IMPEDANCE DURING POWER SWINGS The present invention discloses a system (100) for emulating power swings in an electrical power system and performing in-process evaluation of apparent impedance during these swings. The system comprises a grid-synchronized Power Electronic Converter (PEC)(102) connected to the grid (106) via an AC-side inductor (104) and controlled by a digital processor (DP)(112). The DP (100) implements a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) control logic to synchronize the PEC (102) with the grid (106) and a Variable Power Angle Model (VPAM) based control strategy to superimpose angular perturbations on grid voltage phase angles, thereby emulating physical power swings. Sensed phase voltages and line currents at the point of common coupling (PCC) are processed to calculate phase angle differences, RMS values, and apparent impedance in real time. The present invention provides a low-cost, time-efficient platform for testing distance relay during power swing and the corresponding grid analysis under diverse operating conditions; hence ensuring enhanced power system stability.
