MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541040456 A) filed by K. Ramakrishnan College Of Engineering on April 26, 2025, for A Modified Speed Bump System For Road Safety.

Inventors include M. Vaishnavia; and R. Kamalitta.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT A MODIFIED SPEED BUMP SYSTEM FOR ROAD SAFETY The present invention is a multi-functional speed bump system which is designed to improve traffic management especially for emergency vehicle and enhance road safety. The speed bump is made up of rubber which is made in slit-box shape. It also includes a non-skid surface and drainage holes to prevent water accumulation during rainy conditions. Embedded Triboelectric Nanogenerators (TENGs) in speed bump helps to generate electricity when vehicles pass over it, then the generated electricity will be stored in a battery or supercapacitor to power the system. The system includes reflectors and acoustic sensors that detect emergency vehicle sounds and communicate with nearby traffic signal to clear the way. Additionally, a spin mechanism is included in it to puncture the vehicles traveling in the wrong direction. This innovation helps to prevent accident due to travelling in wrong route, generate renewable electricity and detect emergency vehicle and helps in clearing traffic.
