Abstract: The present invention relates to a multifunctional chemosensor-based detection system for rapid identification and assessment of heavy metals and microplastics in wastewater. The system comprises a wastewater sample receiving unit, a pretreatment unit, and a dual sensing module incorporating a heavy-metal sensing element and a microplastic sensing element. The heavy-metal sensing element selectively detects target metal ions, while the microplastic sensing element captures and detects microplastic particles present in the wastewater sample. The resulting interactions are converted into measurable optical, colorimetric, fluorescent, and/or electrochemical signals through a signal transduction unit and acquired using optical or electronic sensing devices. The acquired data are processed using image processing and artificial intelligence-based analysis to classify contaminants and estimate their concentrations. The processed results are displayed through a user interface and may be transmitted through an IoT communication module to a remote data storage and monitoring platform. The invention provides a portable, rapid, cost-effective, and integrated approach for wastewater contamination monitoring and environmental assessment.
