Abstract: Present disclosure provides multipurpose apparatus 100 and method for measuring one or more index properties of an object 111. The apparatus 100 comprising first container 101, second container 103, and volumetric measurement unit (VMU) 105. First container having a closed end and an open end. Second container having a closed end and an open end, the second container being disposed within the first container. VMU having an open end and a closed end. VMU being oriented vertically with the open end positioned upward and the closed end being fluidly coupled near to the closed end of the first container through a first flow control element 107. The apparatus 100 is configured to measure the one or more index properties of the object through displacement of fluid from the second container to the first container and the VMU when the object is placed in the second container filled with the fluid.
