Abstract: The depletion of fossil fuel resources and the increasing concern over environmental pollution have intensified the search for renewable and cleaner alternative fuels for compression ignition (Cl) engines. Syzygium cumini (Jamun) seed oil, a non-edible and abundantly available biomass resource, has emerged as a promising feedstock for biodiesel production. However, its relatively higher viscosity and lower heating value compared to conventional diesel limit its direct application in diesel engines. To overcome these limitations, a nano-enhanced Syzygium cumini biodiesel by incorporating silicon dioxide (Si02) nanoparticles as combustionimproving additives. Biodiesel was produced through the transesterification of Syzygium cumini seed oil and blended with diesel in various proportions (B20, B40, B60, B80, and B100). S102 nano particles were dispersed into the blends using ultrasonication to obtain a stable nanofuel. Engine experiments were conducted on a single-cylinder, four- stroke, directinjection diesel engine under different loading conditions while maintaining constant injection timing and injection pressure. The nano-additive improved fuel atomization, enhanced oxygen availability, and promoted complete combustion, resulting in improved brake thermal efficiency and reduced brake-specific fuel consumption. Furthermore, the nanofuel significantly lowered carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC), and smoke emissions with only a slight increase in nitrogen oxides (NO.). Among the tested fuels, the B20 nanofuel exhibited performance characteristics closest to neat diesel while providing superior emission control. The study demonstrates that nano-enhanced Syzygium cumini biodiesel is a viable, eco-friendly, and sustainable alternative fuel for future CI engine applications.
