MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124755 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 19, 2026, for A Non-Invasive Elevator Demand Management Apparatus And Method Using Suspension- Mode Resonance Load Estimation With Schedule-Reliability Gating And Pre-Entry Passenger Organization.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an elevator demand prediction and schedule validation system comprising an inertial sensor (101), a barometric altimeter (102), a transient detector (103), a suspension-mode load estimator (104), an empty-car self-calibration (105), and an MCU + link (106). The system detects a vertical suspension-mode frequency generated during elevator start and stop transients and determines elevator car load using the frequency and car position without requiring a load cell, encoder, or elevator controller connection. The empty-car self-calibration (105) establishes a position-dependent empty-car frequency characteristic during zero-occupancy periods. A boarding counter (112) determines measured passenger loading from changes in estimated car load, while an institutional schedule store (107) and anonymous queue sensing (108) provide information for demand prediction (109). A schedule-reliability gate (110) compares predicted and measured demand and adaptively attenuates unreliable schedule information. Fault attribution (111) identifies corresponding schedule discrepancies, while a destination-group display (113), lane indicator array (114), and optional lobby flap gate (115) organize passengers before entry. The system operates as a battery-powered retrofit without intervention in safety-critical elevator assemblies.
