MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411100690 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research on December 18, 2024, for A Non-Newtonian Electrolyte Enabled Portable Electrochemical Probe Assembly For In Situ Corrosion Measurements.

Abstract: The present invention relates to portable non-Newtonian electrolyte enabled portable electrochemical probe assembly for insitu detection of surface defects, including corrosion, on metal surfaces. More particularly, the present invention relates to portable non-Newtonian electrolyte enabled portable electrochemical probe assembly comprising compact assembly featuring a non-conductive cylindrical housing barrel, that houses a probe electrode and a Non-Newtonian gel electrolyte termed as slime. The portable electrochemical probe electrode is embedded within an elastomeric polymer, which together acts as a plunger. The non-conductive cylindrical housing barrel barrel– plunger/ probe electrode arrangement made using the essential components of the portable non-Newtonian electrolyte enabled portable electrochemical probe assembly ensures the controlled containment of the electrolyte in a compact manner. The non-Newtonian electrolyte enabled portable electrochemical probe assembly is sensitive to surface changes caused by corrosion and defects in protective coatings, delivering superior reliability and ease of use compared to the existing portable electrochemical probe assemblies using traditional liquid electrolytes.
