The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel acarbose-loaded oral gel formulation based on Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Cluster Bean) seeds derived galactomannan for modified oral drug delivery, particularly intended for pharmaceutical use in the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and postprandial blood glucose elevation. The formulation comprises acarbose as an active pharmaceutical ingredient, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba seeds derived galactomannan as a natural gelling and drug-release-modifying polymer, sodium benzoate, citric acid and purified water. Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba galactomannan was extracted and purified from Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba seeds and exhibited a swelling index of approximately 320% in distilled water and 235% in pH 7.2 buffer. Oral gel formulations containing approximately 2%, 4% and 6% galactomannan were developed and evaluated. The 4% galactomannan formulation (F2) demonstrated suitable physical characteristics, pseudoplastic rheology and approximately 93.31% in-vitro voglibose release after 135 minutes under the disclosed test conditions. The invention therefore provides a natural polymer-based oral gel system for modified delivery of acarbose.
